The total production volume in the furniture industry in Estonia grew by 14% at constant prices in 2011, reports the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications. Growth on the domestic market as well as on external markets was relatively similar.

Competing on foreign markets played an important role in the production of furniture. More than three fourths of the production output was exported and the share of exports has grown from year to year, writes LETA.

The principal destination countries for exports were the Nordic countries which received more than 80% of all exports in this sector. Finland maintained its position as the largest exports market, receiving 42.4% of the total exports in the sector.

In comparison with the year 2010, the number of people employed in the sector grew nearly 7% – more than twice faster than the average in the manufacturing industry sector.

Level of investment activity in the furniture industry grew significantly in 2011, more than two times. More than two thirds of the investments were made into machinery and equipment.

The largest furniture-producing enterprises in 2011 were Standard, Bellus Furnitur, Flexa Estonia and Valga GOMAB Mööbel.
