The ports owned by the Port of Tallinn provided services to nearly 1.14 passengers in July 2012, which is the highest monthly number in the company’s history, writes LETA/National Broadcasting. In comparison with the same month last year, the number of passengers grew by 2.4%.

All routes increased the number of passengers, but the growth was the most notable on the route between Tallinn and Helsinki.

The number of passengers travelling through the Port of Tallinn has reached record high levels during all months this year. The number of cars travelling through the port is also reaching record high levels this year.

Sirle Arro, the manager of passenger and cruise ship operations of the Port of Tallinn, stated that the enterprise has reached a state where some trips are sold out and getting tickets is not particularly easy.

“The increase in the number of passengers is mostly due to successful tourism development and also Estonians’ increased activity in travelling, particularly to countries in the close vicinity and along with their own means of transport,” she added.

During the first seven months of this year, the Port of Tallinn has provided services to a total of 5.17 million passengers – 4.6% more than during the same period of time last year. 82% of these passengers travelled the route between Tallinn and Helsinki.

The port expects to raise this year’s number of passengers to 8.7 million. Last year, a total of 8.48 passengers travelled through the ports owned by the Port of Tallinn.
