Riga Port increases cargo turnover by 9.6% in 7 months

Bulk cargo turnover increased 13.5% to 13.5 million tons. Past-year trends indicate that the volume of bulk cargo rapidly grows, increasing its share in the port's total cargo turnover, writes LETA.
The total amount of general cargo rose six% from the first seven months of 2011 to 3.98 million tons. Container cargo transportation has been in a dominant position in this segment for more than a year, growing 26.2% in the first seven months. The volume of roll on/roll off cargo increased 9.1%, reaching 337,000 tons.
Liquid cargo turnover rose 3.4% to 5.1 million tons. Oil products constituted the largest of the total liquid cargo turnover in the first seven months of the year, increasing 3.3% from the respective period in 2011 and reaching 5.09 million tons.
