The passenger traffic at Vilnius International Airport (VIA) shows regular growth in summer months. July this year showed the best results in the airport’s history. Last month the airport serviced 236 thousand passengers – 26.98% more than during the same period in 2011.

20 July was marked by a record-breaking number of passengers services per day surpassing the record reached in June. With 4647 arriving and 5020 departing Vilnius International Airport serviced 9667 passengers in total, informs BC head of VIA public relations division Sandra Šiaulienė.

”It should be noted that the record-breaking July was marked by an equal growth both in regular and in charter flights. This growth was determined by the expansion in flight geography, while the growth in charter flights was accelerated by transit passenger flows through Vilnius,” – VIA Director General Tomas Vaišvila commented on the airport activity results.

Satisfying results regarding aircraft loading for new destinations to Tel Avi, Reykjavik, Stavanger, Bergen, and Karlsruhe introduced this summer allow anticipating even greater popularity of these destinations next summer.

Moscow remains one of the fastest growing destinations, Tallinn is not far behind: the number of passengers for both destinations increased more than two-fold in July. The airline Transaero flies to Moscow airport Domodedovo 4 times a week, Aeroflot performs daily flights to Sheremetyevo, and Utair Aviation flies to Vnukovo twice a day. Estonian Air performs three flights a day to Tallinn.

Significant increase in the number of passengers was observed to Oslo with 76%, to Kiev and London with 48%, Warsaw with 45% and Frankfurt with 26%. The highest number of passengers in July was carried by companies Wizz Air, Ryanair, Luthansa, Small Planet Airlines, SAS Scandinavian Airlines and other.

An average growth in the number of passengers in June and July reached 25% – it is expected to maintain this growth and to reach 2 m passengers in the second half of this year.
