Foreign direct investment in Ventspils companies increases by 10% in 2011

Direct investments from 32 foreign countries have been made in Ventspils companies' share capital. Switzerland was the largest foreign investor in Ventspils at the end of 2011, investing LVL 47 million or 38.4% of the total amount of foreign direct investment in the city. Dutch direct investment amounted to LVL 22 million or 18%, the British Virgin Islands directly invested LVL 15.6 million or 13%.
In 2011, foreign direct investment in Ventspils companies' totaled LVL 4.5 million.
The amount of foreign direct investments per capita amounts to LVL 3,213 in Ventspils, 33.5% more than the average figure across Latvia. Among Latvia's largest cities, Ventspils ranks second in terms of foreign direct investment per capita.
The largest share of foreign direct investment in Ventspils goes into transport and storage – 61% of the total amount of accumulated foreign direct investment.
