Cargo turnover at Latvian ports grew by 17.2% in 5 months

Print versionCargo turnover at Latvian ports reached 34.02 million tons in the first five months of 2012, 17.2% more than in the respective period in 2011, according to the Transport Ministry's data.

In the first five months of 2011, Latvian ports handled a total of 29.02 million tons of cargo, writes LETA.
The Freeport of Riga handled 12.5 million tons of cargo in January-May 2012. The Freeport of Ventspils handled 14.7 million tons, while the Port of Liepaja – 2.9 million tons.
Bulk cargo made up the largest part of the cargo turnover at Latvian ports in the first five months of the year – 16.2 million tons; followed by liquid cargo – 12.2 million tons, and general cargo – 5.3 million tons.
