Cargo turnover at Latvian ports increased by 19.5% in 4 months

Print versionCargo turnover at Latvian ports reached 27.1 million tons in the first four months of 2012, 19.5% more than in the respective period in 2011, according to the Transport Ministry's data.
The Freeport of Riga handled 12.5 million tons of cargo, 14.9% more than in January-April 2011. The Freeport of Ventspils handled 11.8 million tons (a 21.1% increase), the Port of Liepaja – 2.26 million tons (a 46% increase), writes LETA.
Bulk cargo made up the largest part of the cargo turnover at Latvian ports in the first four months of the year – 12.87 million tons (a 24.1% increase); followed by liquid cargo – 10 million tons (an 18.6% increase), and general cargo – 4.23 million tons (a 9.2% increase).
119,567 TEU containers were handled in January-April 2012, 29.6% more than in the corresponding period in 2011.
