Pavluts: UAE businessmen highly interested in wood-processing and port business opportunities in Latvia

United Arab Emirates businessmen are highly interested in Latvia's offer in wood-processing and port businesses. In addition, UAE airlines are interested in joint flights with Latvia's national airline airBaltic, Economy Minister Daniels Pavluts told Nozare.lv.

UAE businessmen also have a detailed interest in our wood-processing companies' offer, even up to their prices, added the minister, writes LETA.

 

"It is now clear that UAE airlines Emirates Airlines and Etihad Airways are interested in joint code-sharing flights with airBaltic. At the moment, these airline's cannot be mentioned as airBaltic strategic investors, however, the meeting with Qatar Airways is still ahead," explained Pavluts.

 

Today, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity) will meet with Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Qatari Prime Minister Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani in Doha. The officials will sign a memorandum of understanding between Latvian and Qatari foreign and economy ministries.

 

The Latvia-Qatar business forum, organized by the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA) in cooperation with the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will continue as well.

 

Tomorrow, Dombrovskis will meet with Qatari Energy and Industry Minister Mohammed Saleh Abdulla Al Sada, Qatargas, Qatar Holding, Qatar Airways, Al Addyiar Real Estate Investment and Port of Doha management representatives.

 

As reported, during his visit to the Middle East, the prime minister is accompanied by 43 businessmen from 33 companies representing education, finance, IT, wood processing, transport and logistics, construction and real estate, energy, metalworking, food industry, medical services and other sectors.

 

The visit is organized at the initiative of the Latvian side to look for new export markets for Latvian producers and attract new investments to Latvia and taking into account that the United Arab Emirates and Qatar focus their strategy on investments in other countries. In addition to its traditional cooperation partners – European Union and the United States – Latvia is also interested in cooperation with new regions, whose economic potential and influence in global economy increase each year.
