Hotel Viru-based Museum of KGB has received the Entrepreneurship Award Tourism Project 2011, a cultural fund Tallinn 2011 reports.

The winning argument included the statement that the museum has become one of the most fascinating new attractions for foreign tourists in Estonia. The jury also called it a true innovation in the tourism sector, writes LETA.

"The award means giving recognition to over 200 employees and thousands of former employees, whose stories are what really made the museum," said Anu Soosaar, the Managing Director of Sokos Hotel Viru.

"Above all, I would like to thank the millions of guests who have given our hotel its almost 40 years of history. The award appreciates the tourism industry as a whole and having been mentioned from amongst such strong competitors is an honour on its own," Soosaar stated.

The two other finalists in the entrepreneurship competition were the 11th Youth Song and Dance Celebration and the renovated building of the Great Guild which houses the Estonian History museum.

The museum belongs to the program of European Capital of Culture Tallinn 2011 and can only be visited with a local guide. The museum employs a total of 4 tour guides and the tours take place 7 days a week 6 times a day. Since the opening on January 13 more than 20,000 people have visited the museum.
