EU IT agency in Tallinn to manage a billion euro project

The new European Union IT agency that will be located in Tallinn may become responsible for a creating new pan-European IT system that is forecast to require 1.3 billion EUR, LETA/Äripäev.ee reports.

The European Commission wants to give the new agency the task of administering and developing the Schengen information system, European visa information system and European asylum seekers database but also the coordination of implementing the pan-European entrance and exit system, registered travellers programme and electronic border crossing gates, interior ministry said, after the meeting of EU justice and interior ministers in Poland yesterday, at which Estonian interior minister Ken-Marti Vaher also participated.

 

The creation of the so-called e-borders package will require 1.3 billion EUR.
