All user information – the desktop, documents, settings will be saved in the data center, while work place will comprise of only monitor, mouse and keyboard – tiny client, or tablet PC, as iPad. All other infrastructure will be moved to the "cloud" – a specialized data center, which will be accessed via secure connection from any place and at any time, informs LETA/ELTA.
According to Mindaugas Pranskevicius, Director of Baltnetos Komunikacijos, the world is undergoing a revolution and now work places, similar as computing itself, are traveling into cloud. The personal computer is no longer necessary, as main requirement becomes constant access to information resources.
Virtual work place is very flexible and requires less service – the management of IT infrastructure becomes much easier and cheaper, it is simple to assign more server resources, and gives freedom to the user – he or she now can access his work place via internet from any location.
Customer does not need to take care of OS and software upgrades, data protection, recycling of old equipment, as all this is undertaken by the service provider.
It is estimated, that now every litas, spent for IT equipment, generates up to three litas of service expenses. Virtual Desktop Infrastructure will decrease such expenses in two ways – both direct expenses (as hardware, software, electricity, security solutions, data recovery, etc.), and indirect costs (PC downtimes, data losses, service) will be significantly reduced.
Virtual workplace solution is offered on a monthly rental basis, its cost will depend on the customer needs and amount of services.
