In January exports and imports increased by 59.6% and 60.2% in Lithuania

Statistics Lithuania informs that, based on provisional data obtained from customs declarations and Intrastat reporting data, exports in January 2011 amounted to LTL 5 billion, imports – LTL 5.7 billion. Foreign trade deficit of Lithuania amounted to LTL 0.7 billion, which is by 64.8% more than in the same period in 2010. Data on trade with EU countries were adjusted after VAT returns data had been received. In January 2011, against January 2010, exports and imports increased by 59.6 and 60.2%, respectively.

Mineral products excluded, exports and imports grew by 51 and 56.7%, respectively. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin grew by 53.2%, mineral products excluded – 37.4%. An increase in exports was influenced by a 92.5% increase in exports of petroleum products, 2.5 times – ground vehicles, 75.2% – fertilisers. An increase imports was influenced by a 76.3% increase in imports of crude petroleum, 2.9 times – ground vehicles, 2.1 times – boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances.  

 

In January 2011, the most important partners in exports were Russia (12.6%), Germany (9%), Latvia (8.7%) and France (7.8%), in imports – Russia (38.2%), Germany (8.4%), Poland (7.5%) and Latvia (5.7%). 

 

In January 2011, the largest share in exports fell within mineral products (28.6%), products of the chemical or allied industries (9.7%), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (7.8%), in imports – mineral products (39.5%), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (11%), products of the chemical or allied industries (10%). 

 

In January 2011, against December 2010, exports and imports dropped by 8.5 and 4.3%, respectively. Mineral products excluded, exports and imports decreased by 14.3 and 11.6%, respectively. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 3.1%, yet mineral products excluded it dropped by 2%. A decrease in exports was influenced by a 39.5% decrease in exports of boilers, machinery, mechanical appliances and parts thereof, 41.1% – electrical equipment and machinery and parts thereof. A decrease in imports was conditioned by a 26.1% decrease in imports of electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof, 16.6% – boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances and parts thereof.
