he minimum monthly wage in Latvia will be raised from EUR 430 to EUR 500 on January 1, 2021, according to amendments to the Regulation on the Minimum Monthly Wage that the government supported, informed LETA.
Welfare Minister Ramona Petravica (KPV LV) explains that EUR 430 has been the minimum wage in Latvia for three years, and now the time has come to revise it. "I am pleased that the coalition has unanimously supported the initiative," says Petravica, explaining that employees without dependents who are paid the minimum wage will receive almost EUR 50 more each month.
The government will also have to consider raising the non-taxable minimum, said Petravica.
According to the Central Statistical Bureau's data, approximately 138,100 employees were paid EUR 430 or less in June 2020. Of these, 112,700 worked in the private sector and 22,600 in the public sector.
