Merko to renovate Tallink City Hotel for EUR 8.6 mln

AS Merko Ehitus Eesti, part of listed Estonian construction group AS Merko Ehitus group, and Vara HTG OU on Thursday entered into a contract for the renovation of Tallink City Hotel in Tallinn, informs LETA/BNS.

The value of the contract is approximately 8.6 million euros exclusive of value added tax, Merko informed the stock exchange. 


The contract includes the renovation of all hotel rooms, lobby, restaurant, conference center and public areas. The works are scheduled to be completed in spring 2021.


"The renovation of Tallink City Hotel has been in our plans already for a longer time, and business-wise it makes sense to use the current low in the tourism sector for the conduct of the renovation works," Rait Pallo, board member of AS Kapitel and Vara HTG OU, said in a press release. 


The hotel's operator Tallink Hotels is to open the new hotel to guests in June 2021. 


Vara HTG OU is owned by AS Infortar and AS Kapitel in equal shares. 


Tallink City Hotel, situated on Laikmaa Street in the very heart of Tallinn, was opened in the former  Teenindusmaja building after a full overhaul of the building in spring 2004.
