More than 100 companies have received export advice and support through the foreign representation of Enterprise Estonia (EAS), which opened in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in February 2019, informs LETA/BNS.

The board chairman of EAS, Peeter Raudsepp, said that the foreign representation opened in Dubai in 2019 has fully justified itself. "Entrepreneurs' interest in the UAE market has been very high and despite the coronavirus pandemic, our export advisor served more than 40 companies in the first half of this year alone, helped organize several events and establish the necessary contacts for the Estonian EXPO team," Raudsepp said.

Most of the Arabian Peninsula is desert, making the UAE a major importer. "For example, food products are imported for almost 20 billion U.S. dollars a year and therefore Enterprise Estonia has a special export growth program for the food industry in the direction of the UAE market. Its aim is to provide companies with the most specific and versatile support possible for starting and expanding their exports," Raudsepp said. He added that by sectors, the UAE market also has good export opportunities in the IT and construction sectors, health products and services, and the defense industry.

This autumn, Ege Devon, who has been residing in Dubai since 2010, took up the position of Enterprise Estonia's export advisor. She has been responsible for the entire Persian Gulf region in various companies. "Most recently, I was brand director at Sun and Sand Sport, responsible for developing a regional strategy for brands and growing volumes in retail and e-commerce. I have worked with several major global brands such as Nike, The North Face, Timberland and Vans," Devon said.

According to her, the Persian Gulf region is unique and dynamic, depending on tourism, oil and regional politics. "The UAE's forward-looking national strategy focuses on sustainable environment, a world-class medical system and education. I am glad to be able to contribute to the expansion of Estonian companies in this market by sharing my experiences over the years," Devon said.

EAS' export advisers help companies in four main ways, which are preliminary consulting, search for export partners, organization of events and mediation of purchase requests of foreign companies. During the preliminary consulting, a company starting or planning to export will receive an overview of the regulations, standards, licensing needs and trademarks in force in the respective field of the country of destination. The entrepreneur receives information about the country's economic environment and business opportunities, as well as the suitability of the product and service for the market.

The export advisers of EAS work in 14 countries -- Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, France, the United Arab Emirates, China, India, Singapore, Japan and the United States. This year, a new export representation will be opened in Poland and an additional representative will be recruited in Finland.
