Estonia: 2nd round of applications for electric vehicle subsidy to open in October

BC, Tallinn, 14.09.2020.Print version
The Estonian Ministry of the Environment is to open in October a second round of applications for the support arrangement for the purchase of electric vehicles, the budget of which in total is 400,000 euros and the amount to be disbursed per vehicle is 5,000 euros, informed LETA/BNS.

The first round of applications held in early 2020 attracted great interest, according to the ministry, which is why a second round was also organized. The latter was initially to be held in spring but was postponed due to the emergency situation and has been rescheduled to open in the second half of October, spokespeople for the Ministry of the Environment said.

"We will review the support conditions and announce them before the application round opens. The budget of the second round is smaller compared with the first one, which is why we're not planning to support those people and businesses who already received support in the first round," Getlyn Denks, head of the climate department of the Ministry of the Environment, said.

Supported from the measure are purchases of fully electric M1 and N1 category vehicles. The amount to be disbursed per vehicle is 5,000 euros and the price of the vehicle to be bought with the subsidy has been capped at 50,000 euros exclusive of VAT. The vehicles bought with the subsidy must run a mileage of at least 80,000 kilometers in four years, at least 80% of it in Estonia.

The purchases of altogether 232 electric vehicles were supported in the first round of applications with a total of 1.16 million euros. Support recipients included 40 businesses and 15 individuals.
