Tallinn to allocate land for 8 community gardens

The city of Tallinn is about to allocate, free of charge, parts of immovables belonging to the city for the establishment and development of eight community gardens in different parts of the city, informs LETA/BNS.

Deputy Mayor Eha Vork said that the city of Tallinn has supported urban farming, including the development of community gardens, since 2018, in order to facilitate a local and sustainable  community lifestyle, advance physical and mental wellbeing and improve the aesthetics and land use of various areas, spokespeople for the city government said. 


The eight pieces of land that are parts of properties belonging to the city will be assigned to the use of the managers of community gardens free of charge. 


One of the pieces of land, situated on a municipal property at the address 5 Pussirohu Street and on a private property at 3 Pussirohu Street, will be allocated to the nonprofit organization (NPO) Juhkentali Selts.


The piece of land meant for the Mustamae community garden is situated on the property at 82 Ehitajate Road and it will be assigned to the use of the NPO Okoteaduslikkuse Klubi. 


The third of the gardens will be situated on the plot at 19 Pae Street in the city district of Lasnamae and it will be managed by the NPO Lasnaidee. The same NPO will manage one more community garden in the Lasnamae district, situated at the address 42 Laanemere Road. 


The remaining four community gardens will be situated at the address 92 Kolde Avenue in the Pelgulinn area of Tallinn, managed by the NPO Pelguaed, at the address T16 Padriku Road in the city district of Pirita, managed by the NPO Pirita Linnaaed, on the property between Kollane Street, Laulupeo Street T3 and Rudolf Tobiase Street, managed by the NPO Kadrioru Selts, and on the properties at 80 Koidu Street and 36 Videviku Street, managed by the NPO Ameerika Aed.  


Together with the eight aforementioned community gardens there are in total 13 community gardens in Tallinn, and the people active with the gardens number over 500.
