Orlen plans new multimillion investment in Lithuania

Orlen Lietuva (Orlen Lithuania), a Lithuanian oil refiner owned by Poland's largest oil group Orlen, plans multimillion investment into a refinery residue upgrading facility in Lithuania, representatives of the Lithuanian government say LETA/BNS.

Evelina Butkute-Lazdauskiene, an adviser to the economy minister, told LETA/BNS the company's CEO Michal Rudnicki discussed these plans with the Lithuanian ministers of transport, energy, economy and finance on Thursday.

"Orlen Lietuva has plans to invest into a new project in Lithuania, a truly major project, as they plan to build a refinery residue upgrading facility. I am not aware of the amount in question but these are hundreds of millions," Butkute-Lazdauskiene, told.

In her words, the ministers welcomed the company's plans and also discussed possibilities for the state to contribute to this project.

"The very idea is welcome and (Economy – BNS) Minister Rimantas Sinkevicius welcomed such expansion plans in Lithuania, and the other ministers also expressed their positive opinions. If Orlen Lietuva really decides to implement that project in Lithuania, then we should probably think about ways Lithuania could help implement that expansion and probably contribute through infrastructure improvements," the adviser said.

She could not provide any more detail.

Poland's PKN Orlen acquired Mazeikiu Nafta (now Orlen Lietuva) in 2006 and says it has invested almost 4 bn US dollars into the company since then.
