55 media will receive grants from the European Fund COVID-19

The first 55 news media that received grants as part of the first wave of the European Journalism COVID-19 Support Fund announced by the Fund. The list contains three media companies from the Baltic countries.

News media in 20 countries of Europe, as well as in Ukraine and Georgia, receive Emergency Fund grants in the amount of 10,000 euros or 25,000 euros for urgent and critical business needs caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. A complete list of recipients can be seen at europeanjournalism.fund/news


The list contains three news media operating in the Baltic countries. Each will receive support in the amount of 25,000 euros. Estonia: Harjumaa Ühinenud Meedia. Lithuania: JSC Alytaus radijas radio station FM99; Nanook Multimedia.


These funds will help the media to cover employee salaries; attract freelancers; reimburse income from the creation and distribution of print media or from donations / subscriptions /; supplement or replace lost advertising revenue or income from additional activities, such as events; rents, equipment and other technologies necessary for them to carry out their work of informing the public.


The Media Support Fund has received an unprecedented number of applications. In total, 1857 applications were submitted, of which 988 were addressed to the Emergency Fund.


In the coming weeks, the names of news media and independent journalists receiving funding through the Engagement Fund and Innovation Fund will be announced.
