Latvijas Pasts postal company raises turnover 7.9% in 2019

Latvijas Pasts national postal company turned over EUR 96.15 mln in 2019, up 7.9% on year, while the company's profit declined 4.9 times to EUR 408,232, according to the company's financial statements, reported LETA/BNS.

While the postal company's 2019 turnover was 3.6% above the target, the profit result fell short of the target due to the losses Latvijas Pasts suffered as the provider of universal postal service.

 

Compared to 2018, the number of parcels handled by Latvijas Pasts rose by 11%, the number of express deliveries grew 9 % and outgoing international parcel deliveries increased 15%.

 

The postal service also increased provision of transit services, delivering consignments of China's Alibaba platform to various recipient countries. In 2019, Latvijas Pasts handled 50 planes delivering transit consignments. Latvijas Pasts has been working with Alibaba Group's logistics arm Cainiao since the fall of 2017, and the amount of transit cargo has grown significantly in this time period. In 2019, incoming postal deliveries made up 6.7% of all cargo handled at Riga International Airport.

 

As reported, Latvijas Pasts posted EUR 89.11 mln in 2018 turnover, which is 17.9% more than in 2018, while the company's profit rose 18.7% to EUR 2.011 mln.

 

Latvijas Pasts is fully owned by the Latvian state and its basic function is providing the universal postal service. The company is also involved in providing philately, transportation, express mail, financial, press and IT services, as well as retail trade.
