Lithuania's Amber Grid signs GIPL contract with Alvora after getting shareholders' nod

BC, Vilnius, 23.12.2019.Print version
Amber Grid signed on Monday an 80-million-euro contract for the construction of the Lithuanian part of the Gas Interconnector Poland-Lithuania (GIPL) with Alvora, a local pipeline construction company that won the public procurement procedure earlier this year, informed LETA/BNS.

The contract was signed immediately after Amber Grid's shareholders gave the go-ahead on Monday, the power transmission grid operator said.

Nemunas Biknius, Amber Grid's acting CEO, says the company is ready to launch the work and complete it by the late-2021 deadline.

According to Amber Grid, a clear and concrete schedule of work to be carried out each week has been drawn up.

Under the contract worth 79.861 mln euros, not including VAT, Alvora and its partner, Siauliu Dujotiekio Statyba, are to build a 165-kilometer-long gas pipeline from the Lithuanian-Polish border to the Jauniunai gas compressor station.

Lithuania's gas pipeline builder MT Group, the runner-up bidder, last Friday filed a claim over what it described as non-transparent process of evaluation and ranking of bids, but Amber Grid rejected the claim.
