BC, Riga, 09.07.2018.Print version
Ships that sail under the Latvian flag remain in the White List published by the Paris Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control (MoU) Committee, which took effect on July 1, as the Maritime Administration of Latvia informed LETA.

Latvia remains on the White List, although a Latvian ship was arrested last year - for the first time over the past six years.

In total, there are 73 flags listed: forty flags on the White List, twenty on the Gray List, and thirteen on the Black List. Last year, there were 42 flags on the White List, nineteen on the Gray List and twelve on the Black List.

This year, Poland and Korea have moved to the White List from the Gray List. New on the Gray List are the United States, Russia, Iran and Kazakhstan, which were on the White List last year. Meanwhile, new on the Black List is Ukraine.

Latvia is currently ranked 32nd on the White List, down from 26th last year. Estonia has gone two places up from 28th to 26th position, while Lithuania is ranked sixth on the Gray List, down from fourth last year.

The White, Gray and Black lists are based on the total number of inspections and detentions over a three-year rolling period for flags with at least thirty inspections in the period.

Latvia has been a member of the Paris MoU since 2005.
