Orkla Foods Latvija, the owner of Spilva and Gutta food and beverage brands, increased export volumes by 32% in the first half of 2018 against the same period last year, the company’s marketing head Raitis Avots told LETA.

“The turnover of Orkla Foods Latvija grew in the first six months of this year. In Latvia the growth has been gradual but in export markets it has been steep, by 32% compared to the same period a year ago,” Avots said.

The Orkla Foods Latvija representative said that sales in Denmark and Finland have been growing at an especially fast rate. In 2018, the company also resumed exports to Kazakhstan and started shipping products to the Netherlands.

Avots noted that Orkla Foods Latvija continues to develop production for export markets and is adding a number of new products to its portfolio. “A new line of tomato sauces has been created in honor of Latvia’s centenary, but this is not our only novelty. New additions can also be expected to other product categories as well,” he said.

The company’s marketing director said that this year Orkla Foods Latvija plans to invest EUR 755,000 in business development, mainly in its Spilve plant in the municipality of Babite in order to transform the plan into Orkla Group’s center for making sauces and mayonnaises for a wider region encompassing several European countries. To achieve this goal, the company is upgrading its equipment and improving infrastructure.

As reported, Orkla Foods Latvija commenced structural changes at all Orkla Foods production facilities in the Baltic countries in 2016. The main objective was to make the plants further specialize in the production of certain product groups. Orkla Foods Latvija complex in Babite specializes in the production of sauces and mayonnaise, and its products are sold not only in Latvia, but also on the Estonian, Lithuanian and Finnish markets.

According to information available at Firmas.lv, Orkla Foods Latvija closed 2017 with EUR 31.518 million in turnover and a profit of EUR 2.303 million.

Norwegian food group Orkla in August 2014 acquired Latvia's NP Foods group and later decided to merge Latvian food companies Laima, Staburadze, Latfood and NP Foods into one company called Orkla Confectionery&Snacks Latvija and also to merge Latvian companies Spilva and Gutta into another company, Orkla Foods Latvija.
