Tukuma Piens to invest nearly EUR 2 mln in renovation of production

BC, Riga, 04.07.2018.Print version
The Latvian dairy company Tukuma Piens will invest nearly EUR 2 million in renovation of the production and warehousing facilities, according to the website of the Procurement Supervision Bureau.

The company's representative Aivars Lazdovskis told LETA that the purpose of the renovation was "to gain room for new technologies and new products".

The investment project will help Tukuma Piens to expand its product range, including in the organic foods segment, but for now Lazdovskis declined to give detailed comments about the new products, saying it was a commercial secret. He said the company was selling its products mainly in the domestic market as products with short shelf life could not be exported but was trying to export some products that had longer shelf life.

The renovation project is to be completed by August 2019 with the co-financing from the European European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). Afterwards Tukuma Piens plans to buy more production equipment to be installed in the renovated premises.

Three companies bid for the renovation contract, and Amatnieks was selected as the winner of the tender. The contract amount offered by Amatnieks was EUR 1.727 million (VAT exclusive).

Founded in 1996, Tukuma Piens posted EUR 598,829 in profit on a turnover of EUR 46.13 million in 2016. The company has not yet published its financial results for 2017.
