Rokiskio Suris (Rokiskis Cheese), one of Lithuania's biggest dairy processing groups, has started exporting mozzarella cheese to China, with the whole shipment to over 800 tons to be sent out of the country by the end of January 2018, reports LETA/BNS.

"The first batch of the production headed out to China last week – it is around 200 tons," Dalius Trumpa, board chairman at Rokiskio Suris, told BNS.

He told BNS in late October that the company had agreed on exports of over 800 tons of mozzarella to China, with the agreement facilitated by New Zealand's dairy processing giant Fonterra, which bought around 10 percent of Rokiskio Suris' shares for 7.1 million euros in October.

Three Lithuanian companies already export dairy to China: in addition to Rokiskio Suris, Vilkyskiu Pienine (Vilkyskiu Dairy) exported 20 tons of mozzarella and Marijampoles Pieno Konservai (Marijampole Canned Milk) exported about 100 tons of canned unsweetened milk.
