In October, retail trade turnover in Latvia grew by 4.5%

Calendar adjusted data (at constant prices) compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, compared to October 2016, in October 2017 total retail trade turnover rose by 4.5%. Turnoverof retail trade in food products increased by 4.5%, turnover of retail trade in non-food products, except for retail sale of automotive fuel, grew by 6.3%, whereas turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel fell by 1.8%.

The most significant turnover growth within the non-food products group was recorded in retail sale of information and communication equipment (of 21.3%), retail sale of hardware, paints and glass (12.6%), as well as retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (11.8%). Turnover drop, in turn, was observed in retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (of 1.0%), retail sale of cosmetic and toilet articles (4.7%), as well as retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (7.5%).



 

The total retail trade turnover at current prices increased by 7.2% (not taking into account the calendar influence).

 

Compared to September, in October 2017 retail trade turnover grew by 0.2% (according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices). Turnover of retail trade in food products fell by 1.1%, of retail trade in non-food products, except for retail sale of automotive fuel, dropped by 0.3%, while turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel went up by 1.6%.

 

Turnover reduction was registered in retail sale of information and communication equipment (of 2.5%), retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods (0.2%), retail sale via stalls and markets (3.1%), as well as retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (4.7%).

 

Turnover increase, in its turn, was recorded in retail sale in non-specialised stores with non-food products predominating (of 4.8%), retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (3.7%), retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (1.3%), as well as retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialised stores (2.7%).

 

Compared to September, in October 2017 the total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) increased by 1.9%.
