Kokk told BNS that the Chinese delegation, with whom the rural affairs committee on Tuesday visited Estonian agriculture and food industry companies, has expressed interest in investing in the Estonian dairy industry.

"The meetings have gone very well so far. The Chinese have a very serious interest in our dairy industry," Kokk said. The committee chairman added that the Chinese are interested in importing the production of the Estonian dairy industry to China, producing in China on the basis of a license as well as investing in production in Estonia.

According to the head of the Chinese delegation, deputy chairman of the committee Long Zhuangwei, there are no legislative obstacles in China to the import of agricultural products from Estonia. The MP said that he personally expects to be able to buy Estonian dairy products and other agricultural products on the Chinese market. The guests also demonstrated their interest in rural life and legislation related to agriculture in Estonia.

The parties at a meeting on Monday stated that bilateral cooperation with China received a boost after 2014, when interaction between the two countries on a high level resumed and a bilateral action plan was signed. It is based on that accord that cooperation has been taking place to date.

Next a visit of Chinese food safety officials to Estonia is expected to carry out necessary procedures for opening the Chinese market to Estonian products.
