Of the total investment of EUR 70,000, EUR 50,000 were spent on special equipment for making of cheesecakes.

"We wanted to please those, who have a sweet tooth, by giving them something new and very convenient to eat, especially considering that, regardless of the fast-paced life, Latvians show increasing preference for exquisite deserts," said Ieva Razinska, Marketing Manager of Food Union.

Karums cheesecakes are made of light cream cheese and egg yolks and their crisp foundation is made of crushed whole-grain butter cookies. Cheesecakes are available with two types of frosting - raspberry or summer berries.

Food Union Group said its total turnover in 2016 amounted to EUR 247 million.

The Food Union Group is made up of three largest dairy companies and ice cream makers in Latvia - Rigas Piena Kombinats, Valmieras Piens and Rigas Piensaimnieks, Estonia's largest ice cream maker Premia, the leading Danish ice cream producer Premier Is, Norway's ice cream company Isbjorn Is, Romanian ice cream maker Alpin57Lux, and ice cream company Ingman Ice Cream in Belarus. The Group employs over 2,500 people in total, of which more than 1,200 work at the Group's companies in the Baltic countries.
