The US-based company on Wednesday held a groundbreaking ceremony to mark
the start of construction on the 50-million-euro facility in the Kaunas Free
Economic Zone (FEZ) close to Lithuania's second-biggest city of Kaunas.
Hollister President and
CEO George Maliekel says that
the new plant will initially employ 30 to 40 people, which is set to rise to
300 at a later stage. The facility will initially manufacture ostomy-care
products with plans to expand production to include continence-care products,
mostly catheters.
"We are planning to start producing catheters here in 2021. We expect
the plant currently under construction to be fully operational in 2025. We
expect further expansion at a later stage: our leased space in the Kaunas FEZ
will allow us to double the area of buildings," he told the paper.
