StrongPoint, a Lithuanian IT solutions company, has signed a contract with a Russian company selling groceries online, which will introduce 25 grocery pickup points in Moscow by the end-2017, Verslo Zinios business daily said.

The solution has already been tested by Sweden's Axfood retailer, which will install 30 grocery pickup stations outside its physical stores Willys later in 2017. StrongPoint executives say the client would next year invest in developing the network.

Julius Stulpinas, StrongPoint executive director for the Baltic states and Russia, is convinced that the food vending machines would be just as successful as parcel stations, which appear in parcel pickup packages of nearly every parcel operator: "Someone has to be the first one to take the step before others introduce it. The solution now highly interest the companies that operate e-stores or those planning to enter the business. We feel interest across Western Europe, Scandinavia, Russia and the Baltic states."

Asked about potential clients in Lithuania, Stulpinas expressed hope that the solution would attract interest of Barbora online store, which currently offers one delivery option, as well as Rimi that recently announced plans to introduce an e-commerce model.
