Latvian sitting volleyball team player Aleksandrs Ronis has won the Best Actor award at the Manhattan Short film festival for his role in Pavels Gumennikovs' film Just Go! (Sarauj, Just!), informs LETA.

The film is based on a true story about a young man in a wheelchair, who comes to the rescue of the girl he loves when she is mugged. The film was also nominated for the best short film.

This past summer, Gumennikovs' film won the main prize at the Giffoni Film Festival in Italy and was honored as the best film at the Freshflix film festival in Australia. Just Go! also won Grand Prix at the largest Belarusian film festival, Kinosmena, and has been doing very well at other international film festivals.

Manhattan Short marks its 20th anniversary this year. Out of 1,615 short films from 75 countries, only ten films were selected for the festival's final, representing nine countries: Syria, Georgia, Switzerland, United States, Great Britain, New Zealand, Italy, Spain and Latvia.
