Latvia records one of biggest rises in construction output in EU in Q2

Production in Latvia's construction sector in the second quarter of 2017 increased 15.8% as compared to the same quarter in 2015, which was one of the biggest rises across the European Union member states, writes LETA, according to Eurostat data.

The biggest increases were registered in Hungary (28.4%), Sweden (18%), Estonia (17.6%), Slovenia (17.2%), Malta (11.8%), Poland (10.4%). Construction output in Lithuania in the second quarter this year was 6.4% higher than in the second quarter of 2016.


In six countries construction output was lower in the said period compared to the respective period last year – Romania (-11.4%), Greece (-1.1%), Italy (-0.7%), and the UK (-0.4%).


Construction output in the EU increased 3.7% year on year, while the eurozone recorded 3.6% increase. Quarter on quarter, construction output in the EU rose 1.3% and in the euro area 1.5%.


Compared to the first quarter of 2017, construction output increased 4.9% in Latvia, while Sweden reported a 7.6% rise, Malta had a 7.2% rise, Slovenia had a 6.9% rise. Lithuania reported 0.5% rise in construction output. Construction output declined in seven EU member states, including by 1.8% in Estonia.
