"If you have an idea for an innovative and cloud technology-based product, come to us and the Microsoft people will give you expertise about the latest technologies and business models and provide other relevant assistance. Next, the product could be offered abroad through the Microsoft sales and marketing channels," she said.

The Innovation Center opened today in Riga will also serve for popularization of IT education and exact sciences among youngsters.

According to Strazdina, Microsoft chose to open its first innovation center in Baltics and North Europe in Latvia because the corporation's management had faith in Latvia's vision of becoming a data-based economy. The capacity of the Latvian IT industry also was a factor. We see that there are companies in Latvia that work with the latest technologies and cooperate with scientists to create new products, the Microsoft representative said.

The Latvian government and Microsoft reached a conceptual agreement on establishment of the Innovation Center in Riga in June this year during a meeting in Seattle, U.S.
