New car sales in Estonia climb 11.9% on year in August

Sales of new cars in Estonia increased 11.9% on year in August 2017, while sales of utility vehicles increased 3.2% on year, informs LETA/BNS.

A total of 2,048 new cars were sold in August, while 17,399 new cars were sold in the first eight months of this year, marking an increase of 12.2% compared to the year before, the association of Estonian car dealers and service companies AMTEL said.


Small middle class cars remained the most popular type of car in Estonia in August, accounting for 22.8% of the total number of cars sold. Medium SUVs and medium cars accounted for 22.2% and 16.3%, respectively. A total of 94 cars were exported in August.


The most popular carmakers in August were Toyota with 341 cars sold, followed by Skoda with 341 and Renault with 146 vehicles. The most popular models were Skoda Octavia with 123 vehicles sold, followed by Toyota Avensis with 89 and Skoda Kodiaq with 84 vehicles sold.


A total of 452 new utility vehicles were sold in August, 3.2% more than in the same month in 2016. Sales of utility vehicles in the first eight months of this year have increased 9.3% compared to the same period last year. The most popular carmakers were Citroen and Peugeot with 65 vehicles each. The truck segment was topped by Scania with 22 vehicles sold.
