Latvia and Russia have agreed on exchange of additional 3,000 universal permits for international cargo transportation and truckers will be able to receive them starting from September 2017, the Latvian Road Transport Directorate’s representative Zane Plone reported LETA.

Latvia and Russia this year will exchange in total 7,000 universal permits for international cargo transportation, which is the largest number of universal permits in the past 15 years, said Plone.

This week a transport work group of the Latvian-Russian Intergovernmental Commission met in Riga and both countries agreed on exchange of additional 3,000 universal permits for bilateral, transit and third country cargo transportation. So this year 7,000 universal permits and 100,000 permits for bilateral and transit transportation are available.

In 2016 Latvia and Russia exchanged 4,000 universal permits and 100,000 permits for bilateral and transit transportation, while in 2015 these numbers were 2,500 and 95,000 respectively.

Established in 1993, the Road Transport Directorate is a state-owned limited liability company, tasked with licensing commercial cargo transportation business which uses trucks and buses, issuing international licenses to road carriers, carrier database management and data analysis.
