Rail freight in Latvia up 0.2% in 7 months

Freight transportation using the Latvian railway infrastructure amounted to 27.237 million tons in the first seven months of this year, up 0.2% from the same period in 2016, the state-owned railway company Latvijas Dzelzcels (LDz) said, cites LETA.
International cargo shipments by rail in the first seven months of the year
was at 26.546 million tons, up by 0.1% from the previous year, while domestic
shipments 690,400 tons, up 3.6%.
Transit cargo carried by rail was at 24.531 million tons in the first seven
months of the year, or 5% more than the previous year. Import cargo carried by
rail was at 1.803 million tons (down by 25.3%), while export cargo was at
212,900 tons (3.53 times reduction).
As reported, freight transportation by railway in Latvia fell 14%, or 7.8
million tons, to 47.8 million tons in 2016.
