Cargo transportation by road has been growing steeply in 2017 in Latvia
“Shipments by road transport have grown by some 35%,” the minister said.
In Augulis’ words, shipments by road transport to and from Russia have also
increased this year.
The minister informed that the Latvian-Russian intergovernmental
commission’s workgroup on transport, which met on Monday, August 14, reached an
additional agreement on 3,000 permits for shipments to Russia. “This is good
news to truckers shipping cargo to and from Russia,” the minister said, adding
that the latest deal increases the total number of Russian freight shipping
permits to 7,000, which is a record-high number.
Previously, Latvia and Russia had agreed on 4,000 universal and 100,000
bilateral/transit freight shipping permits for 2017, according to the Latvian Road
Transport Administration’s data.
