The two companies this week agreed on cooperation in development of China-North Europe container transportation and started working on new multi-modal transportation routes via Riga port to Scandinavia and the United Kingdom.

"RTSB has been in the logistics business for many years and has expertise in meeting the needs for effective transportation and high-quality services in both Europe and Asia therefore I am pleased that LDz Logistika had been able to establish a strong strategic partnership with the industry leaders in a short time," says Edvins Berzins, President of Latvijas Dzelzcels.

The amount of rail freight carried from China to Minsk (Belarus) is growing, and Latvijas Dzelzcels together with the Belarus colleagues are working to develop a new logistics hub linking Minsk and Riga for efficient transportation to Scandinavia.

Verners Lusis, the board chairman of LDz Logistika, said that container freight was a rapidly growing market segment and the cooperation agreements signed with RTSB and DHL Global Forwarding this summer gave Latvia opportunities for participation in the existing routes and in development of new routes together with other market players.

In the first six months of this year, LDz Logistika carried 6,764 20-ft containers at a 29% rise from the same period last year.

The total amount of rail freight in Latvia in the first half of 2017 grew 1.2% from 2016 to 24.367 million tons.
