The Estonian state-owned logistics company Eesti Post AS operating under the Omniva brand is set to start a trial of delivering parcels with the aid of Starship Technologies' delivery robots and a Mercedez-Bens Robovan in Tallinn's Kakumae district, informs LETA/BNS.

The pilot project, which will last the whole summer, will start on July 19th and include the delivery of genuinely ordered and sent packages, the company's press release said.

Mercedes-Benz Vans and Starship Technologies first introduced Robovan, created for the loading and transport of the delivery robots, in September 2016. It is a solutions, which in the future will improve the so-called last mile logistics.

Starship Technologies is building a fleet of autonomous robots designed to deliver goods locally in 15-30 minutes within a two mile radius. The robots drive autonomously but are monitored by humans who can take over control at any time. Starship Technologies was launched in July 2014 by two Estonian Skype co-founders, Ahti Heinla and Janus Friis, who are also its main investors. The aim of the company is to change the way in which parcels, food and necessities are delivered to the final recipient.
