Lithuania's exports up 16.5%, imports 16.8% in January-May

Lithuania's exports stood at 10.35 billion euros in January-May 2017 and imports amounted to 11.522 billion euros, which is a respective growth by 16.5% and 16.8% year-on-year, Statistics Lithuania said on Monday, cites LETA/BNS.

Lithuania's foreign trade deficit went up by 19.7% to 1.172 billion euros in the first five months of 2017 from the same period last year, the statistics office said, citing non-final data from customs declarations and Intrastat reports.


Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin alone rose by 14.5% year-on-year, while those excluding mineral products increased by 8.9%. Most of the exports went to Germany (9.6%), Poland (9%), the United States (8.2%), Sweden (7.7%) and Latvia (7.2%).


European Union (EU) countries this year accounted for 59% of the Lithuanian exports, while imports from the countries made 69.5% of imports in Lithuania.
