Contract of open competition on design guidelines of Rail Baltica awarded to French SYSTRA

The contracting authority, joint venture RB RAIL AS, announces the winner of the open competition on design guidelines of the Rail Baltica railway that is subjected to the provision of engineering services to develop unified design guidelines for the Rail Baltica construction project., reported BC communication consultant Ligita Brodina.

According to the decision made on the basis of the most economically advantageous offer, the Procurement commission awarded the contract to SYSTRA S.A. The contract amounting to 563 065,00 EUR excluding VAT was concluded on June 30, 2017.


The purpose of the tender on design guidelines of the Rail Baltica railway is to provide engineers with a standardized approach to the Rail Baltica design, which will be mandatory for the design, construction and operations of the Rail Baltica infrastructure and will be endorsed by the respective national authorities, if applicable. The design guidelines will allow to ensure railway interoperability and accelerate the railway design and construction process.


In total, four applicants submitted their proposals for the open competition. These applicants included the consortium of Lithuanian and French suppliers operating under Egis Rail S.A, the French supplier SYSTRA S.A. and two suppliers from Germany – DB Engineering & Consulting GmbH and Gauff Rail Engineering. The open competition was organised in accordance with the Public Procurement Law of Latvia.
