Estonia to announce tender for procurement of automatic weapons

The Center for Defense Investment is preparing a tender to buy 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm automatic weapons to equip the 1st Infantry Brigade and the 2nd Infantry Brigade with new firearms, spokespeople for the Center for Defense Investment said.
As part of the same procurement weapons would be bought for the Ministry of Justice and the Police and Border Guard Board, since also these institutions are experiencing a need for new weapons.
The tender will be held by a negotiated tendering procedure with prior publication of a tender notice.
The technical specifications of the items to be procured have been set out under the guidance of the defense forces.
The spokespeople added that the tender is to be announced in the near future.
Procurement of new firearms is envisaged in the development plan of the Defense Ministry's area of government for 2018-2021.
