BC, Riga, 15.06.2017.Print version
The Nordic Council of Ministers has launched a special grant scheme for journalism and media production. The grant scheme will support creation of high quality print, transmitted or online media content related to minorities in the Baltic countries.

Open to journalists in Lithuania, Latvia ant Estonia, media grants will cover reasonable travel, accommodation and communication costs related to the selected story, as well as a modest honorarium.

Freelance journalists and Editorial offices of media outlets registered in one of the three Baltic states may apply for a grant of up to €10.000 for maximum duration of one year. Applications deadline is August 4.

The main objective of the grant scheme is to increase quality and attractiveness of local, regional and national media in the Baltic countries, with a special focus on inclusive content in minority languages and ethnically diverse regions.

All funded projects have to be freely accessible to a national or global online audience without any access barriers such as pay walls or registration. The grant allows for full editorial independence and the Nordic Council of Ministers shall not exert any influence on the editorial decision-making of the media production.

The grant scheme is a continuation of The Nordic Council of Ministers’ support program for media production, media knowledge, and media literacy for the minorities in the Baltic countries.

The program will be implemented throughout 2017 and 2018 in the form of co-operation between the Nordic Council of Ministers’ offices in the Baltic countries and local partners. The total amount set aside for the program is approximately EUR 654,000, just over 80 percent of which will be funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers.
