Ostapenko on her birthday gets into Grand Slam final

Print versionLatvian tennis player Alona Ostapenko on her 20th birthday today got to the French Open Grand Slam final, making a historical turn in Latvian sports, reports LETA.

Ostapenko defeated Timea Bacsinszky from Switzerland with 7-6 (7:4), 3-6, 6-3 in a semi-final at the French Open on Thursday.
She has become the first Latvian ever to reach a major singles final.
Today both rivals marked their birthdays – Ostapenko turned 20, while Bacsinszky celebrated her 28th birthday.
"I am very happy, I love to play here, thanks for supporting me, this is an ideal birthday," she said right after the game.
