The Estonian e-residency program has launched a partnership with the Finnish financial technology company Holvi as a result of which e-residents of Estonia can set up a business and open a business current account over the internet.
Kaspar Korjus, director of the e-residency program, said
that where so far e-residents had to visit Estonia at least once to open a bank
account, now this can be done over the internet without having to visit
Estonia.
The e-resident's business account provided by Holvi was
tested on a small number of e-residents and the feedback was positive, Korjus
said.
"This is Estonia's gift to the world, which creates a
borderless digital nation for global citizens," Korjus said in his blog.
Korjus said that e-residents were willing to set up
businesses in Estonia also when visiting the country to open a bank account was
necessary. Altogether more than 1,600 businesses have been established in this
manner, Korjus added.
