Latvenergo begins selling natural gas to customers in Latvia

Joint-stock power utility Latvenergo's brand Elektrum has begun natural gas supplies to legal entities in Latvia, the company informed LETA.

First agreements on gas supplies to customers in Latvia have been signed. "Latvenergo has for a long time been one of the largest natural gas consumers in Latvia, each year consuming about 40% of the entire gas consumption in the country. It is therefore only natural in a free market that the largest power company in Latvia, with historically accumulated competence, expands its commercial operations by signing individual natural gas supply agreements with other consumers," the company points out.

"The deregulation of the natural gas market in Latvia has caused a lot of changes and novelties for natural gas suppliers and, even more so, for their clients," said Latvenergo Sales Director Uldis Mucenieks. "What we offer is based on fixed, predictable natural gas prices for a period of twelve months," he explained.

Latvenergo is receiving inquiries from Latvian companies that wish to change their natural gas supplier, and they are sent individual offers based on their gas consumption volumes and specific needs. Elektrum also settles all formalities concerning the change of natural gas supplier. Physical supplies are regulated by the state, and are provided by the gas transmission and distribution companies Conexus Baltic Grid and Latvijas Gaze.
