Estonia and Russia agree to resume transport cooperation

According to Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Sergey Aristov, Estonia and Russia have come to an agreement as to the reestablishing of their cooperation in the field of transport, writes LETA/BNS by Interfax information.

"Today we effectively agreed to resume our transport communications and discussed the possibility of speeding up our passenger railroad service similarly to that between St. Petersburg and Helsinki where border and customs controls are carried out on the move," Aristov told at the TransRussia economic forum in Moscow on Tuesday.


Aristov said the results of the talks at the forum were "very positive". Estonia was represented at the forum by Ahti Kuningas, deputy secretary general for transport at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, chairman of the supervisory board of Estonian Railways Priit Rohumaa, and Estonia's ambassador to Russia Arti Hilpus.


According to the ambassador, the talks took place in a very constructive and friendly atmosphere. The topics discussed included how to increase the speed of the train journeys and how to collaborate in the matter of highways.


The ambassador also expressed the hope that next time representatives of the Russian Ministry of Transport will be hosted in Tallinn.
