New light-vehicle registrations in the Baltic State s grew by more than 10% in Q1 2017

Analysis of fully-processed registrations’ data performed by AV Automotive Research / AutoTyrimai, based on source data obtained from Regitra (Lithuania), CSDD (Latvia) and Maanteeamet (Estonia), shows that new light-vehicle (M1&N1) registrations in the Baltic States increased by 10.6% to 17’979 units in I quarter 2017.

Lithuanian market showed impressive growth rate and kept its second position in the region (+18.0% to 6’221 units). Latvian market remained the smallest by volume and it also was the slowest-growing one (+2.6% to 4’510 units). Meanwhile Estonia reached two-digit growth and was the obvious leader by volume (+10.0%to 7’248 units).


Estonia did not give up its position as the largest market in the Baltic States, accounting for 40.3% of the total, while Lithuania and Latvia respectively had 34.6% and 25.1% shares.

When calculated per 1’000 inhabitants, Lithuania continues to be in the worst position: its index is just 2.2, while Latvian one is 2.3 and Estonia is clear leader here with 5.5.


There were 15’623 passenger cars (+11.4%) and 2’356light commercial vehicles (+5.6%) registered in the Baltic States in I quarter 2017. The best performing makes (brands) were

Toyota(2’524 units), Volkswagen (2’013 units), Skoda (1’751 units), Renault (1’086 units) and Fiat(1’003 units).


The most popular models were: Skoda Octavia (736 units), Fiat 500 (605 units),Nissan Qashqai (596 units), Toyota RAV4 (560 units) and Kia Sportage (514 units).
