Q1 loading at Lithuania's Klaipeda port up 2.8%

Cargo traffic at the Lithuanian state seaport of Klaipeda was 10.303 mln tons in the first quarter of this year, up by 2.8%, from 10.021 mln tons, in the January-March period of 2016, the port's authority said.

In March alone, the cargo traffic declined by 1.5% to 3.46 mln tons.


Over the first three months of this year, liquid cargo volumes fell by 16.6 % to 2.682 mln tons. General cargo volumes was off 2.1 % to 2.981 mln tons and bulk cargo volumes jumped by 23.4 % to 4.64 mln tons from the same period last year.


In March alone, liquid cargo throughput declined by 27.3 % to 842,900 tons, general cargo volumes fell by 7.8 % to 1.071 mln tons and bulk cargo soared by 29.6 % to 1.546 mln tons

Some 1,622 vessels arrived in the Klaipeda port this year, down from 1,625 in the same period of 2016.
