Latvia's Agris Preimanis appointed new EBRD director in Kazakhstan

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has chosen Agris Preimanis from Latvia as its new director in Kazakhstan, which is one of the bank’s largest countries of operations, the EBRD informed LETA.

Preimanis holds a DPhil in Financial Economics from the University of Oxford.


He has been working at the EBRD since 2010 and since 2014 has been the bank’s lead economist for Central Asia.


Premanis has been actively working with the Kazakh government and private sector to boost the economy’s competitiveness and develop Kazakhstan’s banking sector.


To date, the EBRD has invested EUR 8 bln in Kazakhstan, mostly supporting efforts to diversify the economy.
